HAVANA, Cuba (ACN) -- Cuban and Japanese business executives discussed
opportunities to expand commercial cooperation and the signing of new
accords, during a joint conference held this week in Havana.

The areas of fishing, pharmaceutical and tourism were high on the agenda
aimed at finding ways to further commercial relations, given the
opportunities offered by the new Cuban Investment Law.

In his welcoming remarks of the forum, Cuban foreign trade minister
Rodrigo Malmierca said that the Cuban government is willing to work
towards the implementation of joint projects for the benefit of both
parties.

He said that Cuba looks forwards to having larger Japanese trade
activity and promoting local companies in Japan, as well as receiving a
larger number of Japanese tourists.

Meanwhile, the president of the Cuba-Japan Economic Conference,
Tomoyochi Kondo, called on participants to take advantage of the forum
to promote bilateral economic and commercial relations.

"Cuba is making big efforts to boost its economy; we have seen the
willingness of the government in all sectors, including the private
activity, to achieve necessary development for the benefit of the
country," he stressed.
